The scientific study of animal behaviour is called Ethology.

Jelly fish have no brain, bones or a heart and function

with a loose network of nerves located in their thin outer skin.

They are carnivores and excellent predators. Their diet

includes other jelly fish,shrimp and fish.

Star fish have no brains or  blood.However they do have

a nervous system that runs throughout their arms.They manage

to pump nutrients throughout their bodies using filtered water.

Starfish are powerful hunters and primarily feed on mollusks.

They hunt in the water catching sponges, plankton and even

coral for their dinner.

A snail can sleep for three years, when weather becomes

excessively cold; this is a necessity in survival.

Male ostrich makes a roaring noise like lion.

An ostrich can run faster than a horse.

Mite runs 20 times faster than cheetah.

A lone gopher can dig 300 feet of tunnel in a

single night.

Pigs have sensitive ears.They can feel pain in

their ears.

Dogs’ sense of smell is amazing.They smell better

than we do. The reason is the moist leathery surface

of the nose which determines the direction of air currents.

Cats are more sensitive to light than humans.

That may be why they need such good night vision.

Tongue of the snake is extremely sensitive to

sound vibrations.The snake hears with it’s tongue.

The legendary chakora bird drinks the moonlight.

The legend has it that chataka bird drinks only the

fresh rain water as it falls from the sky. It never drinks

water off the ground.

The lizard can shed its tail at will when it feels threatened

by a predator. A lizard’s tail can grow back. Snake’s tail

do not grow back once it is cut off.

Crocodiles use their strong tails as paddles to push

them along. They also lash out at an enemy with

their tails.

Monkeys have grasping tails which help them to

climb the trees and prevent them from falling

from the trees.

Dogs have four toes on their hind feet and five on

their front feet.

Jiraffes can last longer without drinking water

than camels.They will go up to 3 weeks without

a drink. When they do drink they’ve been  known to

down 12 gallons in one sitting.A giraffe can clean

its ears with its 21 inch tongue.

If NASA sent birds into space they would soon die.

Birds need gravity to swallow.

An ostrich’s eye is bigger than it’s brain.

Flying fox are the largest bats in the world.

They are known as fruit bats.Most of the bats are

small like mice.Fruit bats have eyesight that is

adapted to low-light much like cats.Bats might

look like  mice to a certain extent but they do

not belong to mice family.Fruit bats have long

sharp teeth with which they can even break a

coconut Fruit bats are not blind as a bat. They

are equipped  for day light vision. Bats send out

sound waves from their mouth or nose. When the

sound waves hit an object they produce echoes.

The echo bounces off the object and returns to the

bat’s ears Bats listen to the echoes to figure out

where the object is, how big it is and it’s shape.

Butterflies taste with their feet.

Elephants are the only animals that can’t jump.

Spiders can regrow missing legs or parts of legs.

Mammals are diphyodonts; i.e,they develop two sets

of teeth. Kangaroos, elephants and manatees are

unusual among mammals because they are

polyphyodonts; i.e, they have teeth that are constantly

being lost and replaced; they grow a new set every

few weeks.
