Cloud Catches the Convict.

In a village there were two friends, namely A and B.

They decided to go to nearby town to earn money.

They engaged in business and earned a lot of money.

Now they decided to go home and settle in life.

While returning home they had to cross a forest.

They were tired and decided to take rest under the

shadow of a tree. Both of them fell asleep. After

sometime A woke up.A wicked thought entered his mind.

He wanted to seize the money of B. He lifted a big rock

lying there and dropped it on his friend who was sleeping.

The friend woke up and said,”You  need not think that no

one is seeing your wicked deed. The cloud above is the witness

to prove your killing.”So saying, B died.A laughed at his words

and went home carrying the money of B. After reaching  the

village, A married a suitable girl and settled in life. One day

A was sitting in the corridor of the house and looked at the sky.

He saw the clouds floating in the sky and remembering his friend’s

words laughed loudly. At that moment his wife came there

and asked him why he was laughing. He refused to tell her

anything but after insisting a lot, he told her everything and

asked her not to say the secret to anyone. The wife could not

keep the secret  for long. She revealed the story to her most

trusted friend after getting promise from her not to tell the

secret to anybody else. But the friend told the story to her

beloved friend and gradually the story reached the police

who came to enquire  A about the position of B. The police

were able to find out the truth about B and arrested A.Thus

the cloud caught the convict.

This story is from ”Chandamama”, the chilldren’s monthly

kannada magazine, which I used to read in my childhood days.

Discover Your Self Through Children.

Through their numerous  questions, children make you

recognize your own limitations.Children can make you

feel young. They keep you mentally alert and physically

active. They also keep you apprised of  the changing times.

You begin to realise/appreciate that size, age and experience

alone  don’t really matter. If living is an art, as many people

believe it is, children help you perfect this art.

Children  help you discover yourself by exposing you to

many unexpected  situations, putting you  in testing

circumstances, asking embarrassing questions and

even demanding explanations for things, you normally

take for granted. In the process, you tend to develop

better control over your thoughts, speech, actions

and moods. Dealing with children strengthens you

emotionally and stimulates your powers of reasoning.

Sita.

Story of  Sita, composed by sage Valmiki,  is  called as

Bhagavadgita  to be read by  women.

Being Sita is not being docile and obedient; it is to be

a woman of strength and fortitude. It all depends on how

one looks at Sita-subservient and loyal or strong and wilful?

Did she follow Ram as a docile creature because she had to

or as an independent spirited young wife who wanted to?

As most who have read the Ramayana well, see it, Sita was

very much her own woman all through her  extraordinary

trials and tribulations. After all, Sita was a woman with

incredible fortitude and strength of character–a woman

who could wield Shiva’s bow, persuade her husband Ram to

take her along into exile, defy Ravana while in his captivity

and eventually reject Ram, preferring to leave the world

rather than live with him after a second call to prove her

innocence. She retained her dignity, her independent

thinking and her iron will, allthrough her exile, captivity,

banishment, single motherhood and then the final,

most telling of them all–her defiant, furious, unforgiving,

yet quiet rejection of that epitome of ideal manhood, Maryada

Purushottam, Ram.

Not every woman can be Sita.Extraordinary circumstances

alone can make an epic heroine out of an ordinary woman.

It is unfair to expect today’s woman to be Sita or for that

matter Draupadi, Kunti or even Maharani of Jhansi,Noor

Jahan, Ahilyabai Holkar or Sarojini Naidu. Why should be

a woman be like anyone else? Why fall prey to stereotypes

and live life trying to emulate someone with completely

different compulsions and circumstances? Instead she

should be true to her own self, to her motivations, her

dreams, her compulsions and circumstances A sacrificial,

docile woman who is forced to obey every  husbandly  whim,

is as anachronistic today as would be a cry to Mother Earth

to open up to prove her fidelity. One should realize that an

Indian woman cannot be just a Sita! She has in her a bit of Sita,

a bit of Parvati, a little bit of  Lakshmi, a bit of Saraswati….

and yes, a bit of Draupadi, too, to make the delectable

concoction she is today.
