Quote of the day:
Be a seed planter; not a bean counter.
Spiritual corner:
Where do you go to recuperate when tired and fed up?
Have you tried the Presence of God?
Kannada Proverbs:
1.Your leg starts to ache , when you see a horse.
(=When you see a useful resource/means, you feel lazy to do
the job/work)
2.Even if the salary is worth six penny, be employed in a palace.
3.One who eats fire, excretes charcoal.
4.More chatter ruined the house; more seeds ruined the (paddy)field.
5.Even if it is bitter, eat it after making it tasty.
6.When you have broken ties with God(Shiva linga), why you have
any obligation of the universal saint?
7.Don’t be kind to everyone; sometimes people take you for a ride.
Do you know?
1)”Half-moon treatment” is a Kannada phrase, which
refers to the act of forcibly expelling or necking out
someone from any given post for reason of incapability
of that person.
2)”Banana Republic”(=pejorative political descriptor)
is a term coined by the American humourist and short story
writer, O. Henry,(pen name of William Sydney Porter) in his
work,”Cabbages and kings(1904).He loved playing with words
using dialects and coining new words. He travelled to Honduras,
where he coined the term ”Banana Republic” to describe the
existing political situation of the country at that time.
3)BASK=Bay Area Sea Kayakers. It is a club dedicated to the
safe enjoyment of the sport of sea Kayaking.
Health Corner:
List of a few medicines, I have tried and found effective:
1.Combiflam tablet:When I fell down and back side of my palm was
hurt, the tablet reduced the swelling of dorsal area of the palm.
2.Saline Nasal Spray has no side effects and good for breathing problem.
3.Listerine freshburst is very effective for tooth pain. It kills germs
that cause bad breath, plaque and the gum disease, Gingivitis.
Diary:I enjoyed the Hindi movie, ”Burfi” at Cineplex, at
Calgary.Parents of the hero, named him ”Murphy”
but everyone called him Burfi.Theme of the film is a triangular
love story between a dumb youth and two other women, one is
mentally handicapped and another is a married one.It was a fun
mixed and entertaining film.Hero Ranbeer Kapur’s talented acting
reminded me Raj Kapur, his grand father and a popular actor.Priyanka
Chopra’s acting as a mentally handicapped girl was superb.
We left Calgary to San Francisco Airport, by United Express Airways
on 25th Tuesday and came to Larkspur,California, U,S.
On 26th night, my son took us to ”The Melting Pot”, a fondue restaurant
(located near Serenity Apartment, where we lived) and celebrated my birthday
with the best gourmet gifts.”The Melting Pot” is a perfect choice for special
occasions.Fondue means a sauce like liquid made with melted cheese and seasoning
flavoured with kirsch and served as a hot dip for bread crumbs and crackers.
The architecture of the building is unique; the brickwork and archways are
great to look at and admire. The restaurant is located within a beautiful old
brick kiln building. Eating in a dimly lit cave by sticking a fork into a common pot
the ambiance could be unique and pleasing. The interior with intimate lighting
resembled a secretive cave.I felt like I was in a Batman’s hideaway place.
The veggie selection was fairly varied for vegetarians like me. Dinner was nice
with ”Big Night Out”, 4 courses menu:Cheese Fondue(served with bread crumbs and
crackers)-First course; Salad-Second course; Dipping sauces with veggie and meat or
seafood items–Third course. Chocolate/cheese cakes and bananas-Fourth course.
I was greeted with Birthday Greeting card signed by all the employees of the restaurant.
The card contained the message-”Celebrate like every strawberry is the last one”.
The style of cooking was unique. The meals were cooked in a pot, placed on the heater of
the dining table in front of us.I was blown away by the entire meal, beautiful setting
and courteous service of the employees. They presented a candle-lit card with letters
written in liquid chocolate as ”Happy Birthday to Mom” and handed over a bag with
cut fruits and chocolates. The ”Melting Pot fondue restaurant” offered me an extra-ordinary
dining experience of American food that I did not find at any other restaurants.
”When it comes to food, it’s either eating something that’s healthy but without taste
or delicious and bad for us.”–Jessica Bourke (Author of the cookbook, ”Guilt Free Gourmet”)
But,here I tasted fresh and tasty ingredients not only delicious but also healthy.
