The poems that I like.

If  one  has come into this world, one must live.

If  life is like  poison, one has to drink it.

In tough times, you fall; however you must get up and keep going;

Even though one is burning, one must keep walking on the fire;

The one who gave us sufferings will one day take it away.

The woman who observes propriety, is an exemplary woman.

In this world, a woman keeps her integrity in adverse circumstances.

The woman who lives with integrity until her death, is looked upon

as being pure. Oh, my heart, don’t be afraid of miseries; God is with you.

If a person is hard working, anything is possible.

As one sows here, so he reaps.

-This song is from Hindi movie: ”Mother India”

Singer-Lata Mangeshkar.

Taking  bath daily will  not  make one pure enough so

that he can enter the abode of  heaven; why are the frogs

that remain under the water day and night, cannot enter

the heaven?

-Sarvajna ( Kannada poet and devotee of Shiva))

The elephants, that  enjoy playing in water, are not afraid of

fishes  in water; so also one who is  self-realised and noble

will not care for the  abusing words of  mean persons.

— Sarvajna.

Keep nor worrying that it would have been better if the

existing life were a different one; Prefer to be contended

with  the life that the Lord has chosen for you.

-Sarvajna.

One who gives without any request, is really a good person.

One who gives after the request, is an average human being.

One who don’t give after making promise is a mean person.

-Sarvajna.

and moving scripts taken from the epics of India.

1 Manvantara=71 yugas.(=306,720,000Earth Years)

Each Manvantara is ruled by a  a specific Manu; there is

a different Indra, a different Agni(=fire god), a different

set of  Sapta rishis(seven sages)  and all deities including Vishnu.

14 manvantaras  constitute a cycle (Kalpa)

4.Melatonin in cherries   help regulate sleep patterns;

melatonin is an important antioxidant, that helps maintain

optimum brain function and may deter  the onset of  age-related

chronic diseases like  Alzheimer’s. Cherries contain significant

amounts of melatonin-a harmone produced in the brain’s pineal

gland which fights insomnia; treats cancer and  depression and

helps in slowing the aging process. The anthocyanins  found in

cherries protect  neural cells;  promote  brain health; protect

cells from damage during an interaction with oxygen.

They give the cherries their deep red color.

Spiritual corner:

There is plenty of water in an ocean but how much you can

carry away from it, depends on the size of the vessel that you

bring. Similarly, the messages will be vast but what we get  from

it depends on our capacity to absorb. The basic message of  the

Geeta is the same and its purpose is to transform humanity to divinity.

Quote of the day:Laughter means taking a mischievous delight in

someone else’s uneasiness, but with a good conscience.

-Friedrich Nietzsche.

1.During Mahabharata period, the present day Kandahar

province of  Afghanistan used to be known as Gandhar.

Gandhara, the son of Arh, founded the city of  Gandhar.

2.The name ”Viking” (means something like ”raid”)comes from a

language called  ”Old Norse.” The Vikings were the Norse explorers,

warriors, merchants and pirates. The Viking age in European history

was about AD 700 to 1100.

3”Kru” means teacher/trainer in Thai.

4.It  has been 80 years since Omega, first served as Official Time

keeper at the 1932  Los-Angeles Olympic Games. The London 2012

Olympic Games are the 25th, at which Omega has served as Official

Timekeeper.

5.Madhvacharya established the Krishna idol facing west. This was

because the archaka(=worshipper of the idol) can face east, while

performing puja.(=worship). In temples, where  the idol faces east,

the archaka is seen facing north,as he should never face west. Temple

of  Udupi, established by Madhvacharya was built  according to Vastu

Shilpa(the architectural plan) of the temple  and that is why all the shrines

of the eight Mutts(monasteries)have their idols facing west. In  Krishna

temple,The teertha mantapa, tulasi(basil)plant and discourse

hall(Chandra shaale),–all are to the  west.

 Health Corner:

Stress disturbs the balance in the human system where

every episode of  ”Fight-or-Flight”  is supposed to be

accompanied by ”Rest-and-Digest.” We are in a constant

turmoil  and there is no time to recover from this. Our

breathing becomes shallow and fast, blood pressure and

sugar levels  are elevated and we are living in such  conditions

without being aware of the changes. Since mental  agitation is

the main cause of stress, yoga  helps us by calming down the

mind.Yoga looks at health as a positive state of the entire

body and mind. While modern medicine deals with diseases,

holistic practices like yoga deal with health.

The song that I like:

O, lord Krishna! tell me, are You a part of  illusion ?

Or  is  illusion  Your creation? Are You a part of the body?

Or is the body, part of  You? Is the space within  the house?

Or is the house within the space? Or are both the space and

house  within the seeing eyes?  Is the eye  within the mind?

Or the mind within the eye? Or, are  both the eye and the  mind

within You? Oh, Lord, tell me. Does sweetness lie in sugar?

Or sugar in sweetness? Or, are both sweetness and sugar  lie

in the tongue? Is the tongue within the mind? Or the mind

within the tongue?  Or, are both the tongue and the mind

within You? Does fragrance lie in the flower? Or, the flower

in fragrance? Or, do both the flower and fragrance lie in the

smell by nostrils? I cannot  say, Oh, Lord Adikeshava of  Kaginele,

(=Krishna) Oh! Peerless One, are all things within You?

-Composer of this devotional song in Kannada, is devotee

Shri Kanakadasa.

1. In common parlance, Santa Claus’s sleigh is led by

a team of 9 flying reindeers namely-Dasher, Dancer,

Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Donder,   Blitzen and

Rudolph, the red nosed reindeer. The team pull the sleigh

of  Santa Claus and help him to deliver Christmas gifts.

2.The U.S. founded on the principle of home rule, took

its nickname  of  ”America”  from Italian explorer, Amergo

Vespucci. According to another source, ”America” is a phonetic

derivation of an ancient Norse(a language named ‘Old Norse’) compound

word ”omme-rike”(=remotest land). James Pyrse researched  an article

written in the Theosophical Society magazine, entitled ”Lucifer”, which

gave insight into the word ”America”. He says that the chief god of the

Mayan  Indians  in Central America was  ”Quettzalcoat ”. And in Peru

this god was called  Amaru”  and the territory known as  ”Amaruca”

which literally means ”Land of the Plumed Serpents”. He says that

name of  America was derived from ”Amaruca”, instead of after the

name of the explorer Amerigo Vespucci. Bill Still in his book,

”New World Order: The Ancient Plan of  Secret Societies”, shows that

America was called initially ”Amaruca”, (named after the god Amaru),

by the Indians of  Peru.

3.Thailand means  land of  white elephants.(Thai=white elephant)

Thai  people  call the elephants commonly but incorrectly as

”albino elephants”(=white elephants) rather than ”Chang Samkhan”.

(=auspicious elephant) because, albino elephants are not white at all

but look very much like normal grey elephants. Moreover, the English

expression of  ”White Elephant” means something that is ostensibly of

great value but in fact a heavy burden; whereas to Thai people , ”white

elephant” connotes a gift of  inexpressible worth, conferring great honour

and blessing. A white elephant is even included in the flag of  the Royal

Thai navy. Thailand is also known as ”Land of  Smiles”, because of  the friendly

and cheerful nature of  its people. In the native language of  Thailand,  the word

”Thai”, identically pronounced  as ”Tai”  is an adjective, meaning ”free”. Therefore,

for some, Thailand means ”The Land of The Free.” It is the only Southeast Asian

nation that has never been colonised  by the Europeans. So it is aptly called as

”The Land of  The Free”.

4.Controversy about first Indian film,”Raja Harishchandra”, produced and

directed by Dada Saheb Phalke. The silent movie was released for public on

3, May 1913 at  Mumbai’s Coronation Cinema, Girgaon. Some argue that ”Raja

Harishchandra”  does not deserve the honor of  being called the first Indian film,

because, Ramchandra Gopal Dadasaheb Torne’s film ”Shree Pundaleek” was

released on 18th May,1912 at Mumbai  i.e.,one year prior to Phalke’s film.

5. Rohitashwa, son of Raja Harishchandra, founded the town of Rohtas Garh, in

Rohtas district, Bihar.

1)The original abode of Aryans was India
and not Central Asia. This theory was
expounded by Dr.K.R.Alur, a prominent
archaeo-zoologist. Aryan Gods like Rama
and Krishna were purely Indian Gods and
not from Central Asia. Horses were believed
to be brought to India by the Aryans from
Central Asia. But bones of horse discovered
at Hullur village(on the banks of the
Thungabhadra river in Dharwar district)
were pre-Aryan find. Several such bones were
found in pre-historic excavations in other
parts of India, confirming the theory that
Aryans were the original inhabitants of the
country. Differences between the Aryans and
Harappans were induced by ecology, food and
climate.
