international eminence.Vijayendra Kasturi Ranga Varadaraja
Rao, was born on July 8,1908 at Kancheepuram in Tamilnadu.
He was the founder director of 3 noted institutions namely,
a)the Delhi School of Economics, Delhi, b)the Institute for
Social and Economic Change, Bangalore and c) Institute of
Economic Growth. In the international sphere, he was one
of the central forces behind the institutions of the ”United
Nations Development Programme”(U.N.D.P.) and the I.D.A.
(International Development Association) which is the part of
World Bank that helps the world’s poorest countries. I.D.A.
was established in 1960. He was awarded Ph.D. in 1937 from
Gonville and Caius College, Cambridge. The title of his doctoral
thesis was, ”The national income of British India-1931-1932”.
He was awarded ”Padma Vibhushana” in 1974 , by the
Government of India.

in 1943. Benito Mussolini was an Italian politician, who led the

removed him from power and had him arrested.He was
rescued by Hitler, who installed him as the head of the
puppet ”Italian Social Republic”.After the Allied invasion
of Sicily in southern Italy, Nazis controlled the northern
Italy. The rumour that the Allies were going to liberate
Northern Italy, convinced Mussolini to flee to Switzerland.
On April 28, 1945 he was caught by the Italian partisans and
executed, ending Fascist domination in Italy.
